A driver had to be extricated from a car after suffering life-threatening injuries in a collision.

The crash, which occurred at about 3.19am today, took place between a car and an SUV near the junction of Cataract Hill and South Road, Paget.

Police and other first responders found the female car driver trapped inside the vehicle.

“She had to be extricated with the assistance of Bermuda Fire and Rescue Services personnel,” a Bermuda Police Service spokesman said. “She was eventually removed from the vehicle about half an hour later, having sustained leg and hip injuries.”

She was subsequently transported by ambulance to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for treatment of her injuries, which are considered life-threatening.

The male driver of the SUV was subsequently arrested on suspicion of driving whilst impaired by alcohol or drugs and taken to Hamilton Police Station where he was detained. He did not report any injuries.
