Brangman defends education cuts

Acknowledging cuts to Government Scholarship funding, Education Minister Nalton Brangman said the Budget was an honest reflection of the economy.Sen Brangman also told the Upper House that the previous administration had not acted early enough on workforce development programmes like Job Corps.Earlier in the Senate’s Budget Debate, Independent Sen Joan Dillas-Wright said she’d been surprised by cuts to education finding.Referring to Government debt, Sen Brangman responded: “We’re in a very deep hole — and the order has been set out by Government: stop digging.”He noted that Education had received a “slight cut” — but said the Ministry was on the right track.
