Cablevision woes
November 11, 2001
Dear Sir,
Is Cablevision the worst company in Bermuda? I ask this question since it has now been exactly one month since TS Karen struck and my cable service went out. Despite twice daily telephone calls, countless voicemail messages, faxes, personal visits to their offices, lies about "how important I am to them" and "scheduled" repair visits (four separate wasted vacation days taken with no one even turning up as promised), I am still not further forward. I have struggled to remain calm and polite whilst being treated with almost complete contempt by their "customer service" staff. If Belco was able to restore power to the more than 20,000 customers who lost service following the same storm within five days, then why can't Cablevision restore the remaining 300 it claimed were still affected only days after the storm hit? All of my neighbours have cable service and I advised Cablevision right at the outset that I suspected the problem to be at the pole outside my house where a cable appears to have become disconnected - a five minute job but it is obviously too much trouble for these guys who they claim are working seven days a week from dawn until dusk. I don't care about their upgrading work and new fibre networks, I don't want to hear or read any more about how hard they're working, how many more staff they're recruiting, or how wonderful the new service are or will be - if they can't fulfil their most basic function at the outrageous fees they charge, then they should move over and let someone else have a go.
I have now given up and decided that I shall not waste any more of my valuable time by calling Cablevision again. I would also request that you do not print the supplied name and address because I do not wish to have any "special attention" since I am sure that there must be a number of far more deserving customers (the elderly and the disabled) who are without adequate service and should be accorded priority status. It will be interesting to see when I do get my cable restored, anyone want to predict if it'll be on by Xmas? I'll keep you posted.
