win over Orioles on the weekend.

The opening goal came from Stacey DeShields and Michelle Ming added a second, scoring on the rebound after her initial shot had been well saved by Orioles 'keeper Fiona Doe.

Orioles pulled a goal back before the break through Zina Jones but Canaries were always the stronger and went further ahead in the second half after precise passing down the right side by DeShields and Lisa DeSilva resulted in Ally Cameron applying the finishing touch. DeShields netted her second of the game when she tipped a shot from Cameron into the right corner.

Swallows moved into a three-way tie for second place after a hard fought 3-2 win over Bluebirds.

Despite dominating the first half, Swallows couldn't press home their advantage. But they finally took the lead through Jenny McIntosh when she pushed home a cross from Shelley Clement.

Bluebirds quickly answered with the equaliser from Sarah Maltby who was able to scoop up a rebound off the 'keeper's pads.

The second goal for Swallows came from Cath Griffiths after a one-on-one with the 'keeper. But again Bluebirds levelled when Maltby netted her second, tipping in a long corner cross.

Swallows got their winner in the closing minutes through Griffiths from a well executed short corner routine.

The other A League match proved uneventful with Cardinals and Swifts drawing 0-0.

The point leaves Cardinals tied on 22 points with Bluebirds and Swallows while Swifts are a further 10 points back.

In the B League, Canaries outscored Orioles 4-2 after the latter started without a full team.

Despite the disadvantage, Orioles netted first when Betty MacLean scored.

However, by the half Canaries had fought back to lead 2-1 and added two more in the second half.

Susie Elton scored Orioles' second goal with a penalty flick early in the second half.

Like their A team counterparts, Swallows beat Bluebirds 1-0 in a match in which both 'keepers saw lots of action.

Swallows' winner came from Annaka Rubridge after a cross by Kim Stevens with only five minutes left to play.

Cardinals beat Swifts 1-0 after both teams struggled to establish their dominance.

The winning goal came in the second half when Lisa Baldwin fired past goalie Jenna Robinson. The match featured just two short corners, both to Cardinals, and the first as late at the 44th minute.

In men's action, Chameleons beat Rebels 2-0 in the match between the top two teams. The sides have now met four times this season with Rebels only winning once.

Chameleons took the upper hand in the first half, missing several scoring opportunities before Steve Moreton beat Charles Markey to break the deadlock.

Moreton also scored the second when Chameleons were awarded a penalty stroke after a bad tackle in the circle.

In the other match Wasps beat Upstarts 3-1 in a fast-paced game. Goalscorers for Wasps were Justin Barritt, Daniel Bordage and Paul Farrington.

The goal for Upstarts came from Donald Bowman who scored from an acute angle following a bullet of a cross from Jay Ryan.
