Management guru to give vision of world economy

Management guru Tom Peters, the author of the bestselling business book `In Search Of Excellence', is to come to Bermuda in November to give his vision of how the world economy is likely to change.

Mr. Peters will speak to various sectors of the business community and college students at a conference on the morning of November 21 at the Fairmont Southampton princess.

In the afternoon, he will lead a two-hour roundtable with chief executive officers of 25 Bermuda-based companies.

On November 22, Mr. Peters will meet with students aged between 16 and 21 art a Future Leaders Conference.

Mr. Peters is coming to Bermuda at the invitation of Ernst & Young who are sponsoring the event with the Bank of Bermuda and XL Capital.

Ernst & Young managing partner Anthony Joaquin said in a press statement that the effects of September 11, the collapse of stock markets and a string of corporate crises had changed how business was done around the world. "The old world order, with business as usual as its driving force, have been well and truly challenged and a revolution on the workplace is underway.

"Tom (Peters) understand the dynamics of change. He has a clear vision of the forces shaping the new world economy. He recognises that organisations are living entities that need to change if they are to survive and thrive."

Bank of Bermuda president Henry Smith said Mr. Peters "brings a positive and strong message for all of us living and working in these unpredictable times".

And XL chairman and chief executive officer Brian O'Hara said: "The workplace of the future requires more flexibility, creativity and diversity. It's a new game and there are many new rules.... Tom Peters is expected to further stimulate our thinking of how we can participate and succeed in this new world economy."

since writing `In Search of Excellence' with Bob Waterman, Mr. Peters has written `A Passion for Excellence', `Thriving on Chaos', `Liberation Management', `The Pursuit of WOW!' and the `Circle of Excellence'. In 1999 he released three books on Reinventing Work: `The Brand You50', `The Project50' and `The Professional Services Firm50'.
