Photographer Ann launches another show in aid of PALS
You know it’s almost Spring when photographer Ann Smith Gordon premi|0xe8|res her newest audio-visual show in aid of the PALS, the cancer charity of which she is president and CEO.
Over the years, Mrs. Smith Gordon has visited many fascinating, and often out of the way, places, recording the wonders she has seen on film. Prior to leaving Bermuda, she completes a great deal of research on each of her destinations, and following her return she then spends countless hours creating the script, recording it and combining it with her photography — the result of which is never anything less than a professional presentation.
Indeed, such is the quality and content of these shows that Mrs. Smith Gordon has built up a large and faithful following which never misses one of them. In fact, it is a virtual certainty that at the end of every presentation she will be asked: “Where are you going next?”
The answer to last year’s question was “Sicily and Southern Italy” — an adventure that will be screened on March 14 at Mount St. Agnes auditorium, beginning at 8 p.m.
“The show explores yet another beautiful part of Italy and makes a circular tour of the island of Sicily,” Mrs. Smith Gordon says. “Along the way we will visit seaside villages clinging to hillsides; wide, sweeping beaches and dramatic coastlines; mighty fortresses, glorious cathedrals, beautiful works of art, impressive Greek and Roman ruins, active volcanoes, and the weird and wonderful architecture of an enchanting village in Puglia.”
The tour begins in Naples, and includes Pompeii, Capri and the Amalfi coast before crossing to Sicily to visit such highlights as Catania, a city struck many times by disaster many times; the Valley of the Temples in Agrigento; the Good Friday Procession of the Mysteries in Erice; Palermo (of Mafia fame); the medieval town of Cefalu; and the mountain top town of Taormina with its glorious views of Mount Etna; before finally ending Rome.
“I do hope you will join me and share these memorable experiences of a wonderful journey,” Mrs. Smith Gordon says.
Tickets ($15) are now available from PALS headquarters on Point Finger Road in Paget.
