Age-related driving test could be upped from 65 to 70

Older drivers will have the period before they have to pass extra tests to retain their licences extended if legislation tabled in the House of Assembly is approved.

The Motor Car (Driver’s Licence Renewal) Amendment Act 2021 will raise the age at which seniors have to take a driving exam to retain their licence from 65 to 70.

It will also increase the start age for a requirement for a certificate of physical fitness every ten years from 65 to 70.

The Motor Car and Auxiliary Bicycle (Validation and Amendment) Bill 2021 will validate the deferral of vehicle exams for a three-month period from the date of licence expiration during the closure of the Transport Control Department from March to May 2020 because of the pandemic.

It also give the transport minister the power to licence vehicles before an examination in the event of a national emergency.

Legislation to set up a medication price watchdog along with changes to the licensing of cars and bikes will also be debated.

The Bermuda Health Council Amendment Act 2021 was designed to set up pricing regulations for the sale of common medicines through the creation of a Bermuda drug formulary.

The items were tabled in the House of Assembly last Friday.
