Nahki unconcerned about groin strain

Wembley-bound Nahki Wells has downplayed a groin injury he picked up during Bradford City’s 2-2 draw with Fleetwood Town at the weekend.The 22-year-old striker injured himself while stretching for the ball early in the second half of last Saturday’s match at Highbury Stadium.Prior to be being substituted in the 85th minute Wells scored a stunning free kick from 25-yards to extend his season tally to 18 in all competitions.When asked about the extent of his injury yesterday, Wells told The Royal Gazette: “It’s just a groin strain and the physio seems to believe it’s not too concerning yet.”Wells’ teammate Rory McArdle suffered an ankle injury in the same match. The defender left the ground on crutches and wearing a protective boot after twisting his ankle during the first half.Former Dandy Town player Wells hopes to play in the Bantams’ home league clash with high-flying Gillingham at Coral Windows Stadium on Saturday.“Fingers crossed, I should be all right,” said Wells, who converted from the penalty spot in Bradford’s 3-1 league defeat against the Gills at Priestfield Stadium earlier this season.Last week’s stalemate with the Cod Army left Wells and his Bradford teammates tenth in the League Two standings with 41 points from 28 matches.It was Bradford’s first game since their League Cup semi-final second-leg clash with Premier side Aston Villa at Villa Park on January 22. The Bantams won the two legged semi-final 4-3 on aggregate to become the first fourth tier side to reach a major English domestic cup final in 51 years.City will face Premier side Swansea in the League Cup final at Wembley Stadium on February 24.En route to the final Wells and his teammates also claimed the Premier scalps of Wigan Athletic and Arsenal via penalty shoot-outs. City have won nine straight penalty shoot-outs which is an English record.In the lead up to this month’s League Cup final Bradford will see plenty of action.Following Saturday’s match with Gillingham, the Bantams will face Wycombe and Wimbledon in two away fixtures in the space of four days.With his team set to play three matches in a short period, Wells has his sights set on the next match rather than on Wembley.“I’m not worrying about Wembley as we have just as big games every Saturday and Tuesday up until the game,” he said.Bradford will have eight days to rest up for the League Cup final following their February 16 league match against a Wimbledon side they thrashed 5-1 last August with Wells netting the game’s opening goal.The striker’s stand out performances in the League Cup against Premier sides Arsenal and Villa have attracted interest from a host of clubs, including Wolves, Leeds United and Huddersfield Town.The Bermuda international has been a revelation for the Bantams since arriving at Valley Parade on a free transfer from Carlisle in the summer of 2011, netting 12 goals that included a memorable hat-trick against Northampton Town during his debut season with the League Two club last term.
