And Tourism Minister David Dodwell promised to follow up on the visit with the couple who left Bermuda on Sunday.

Kim and Bill Braunschweiger, both 43, and their children were one day into their week-long Bermuda vacation when Ms Braunschweiger heard a noise in their room last Monday and went to investigate. She found a man crouched beside a dresser.

In the course of a struggle she received a compression fracture in her back and a broken ankle. A man has been arrested in connection with incident.

On Friday, Mr. Braunschweiger said he and his family had received much support from hotel and hospital staff. But he said he was disappointed that no-one from the Tourism Ministry had been in touch with him.

Mr. Dodwell acknowledged that the couple had received many calls of support from members of the public as well as free taxi rides when they left the hospital.
