Teen beauty Mckeisha plans modelling career
Miss Teen Bermuda, McKeisha Smith, represented St. George's west at Saturday night's pageant not Southampton as reported. The 17-year student is aiming to become an accountant and to pursue modelling as a side interest.
The winner of Miss Teen Bermuda, McKeisha Smith could easily go on to win one of the Island's senior beauty titles.
That is the view of pageant organiser, Mr. Carlton Tyrell who believes Miss Smith would have a bright future if she chose to become a model.
A delighted Miss Smith burst into tears when she heard the result of the judges at the pageant, staged in a huge tent at Frog Lane Field, home of Devonshire Colts.
A Bermuda High School student, Miss Smith, 17, was representing Southampton against 10 girls from the other eight parishes in the Island. Miss Patrina O'Connor, representing Pembroke, was runner up. The first prize is a school scholarship.
Miss Smith said: "I did not feel too nervous until I had to answer questions.
They included what I thought would be good qualities for a role model.
"There were about 500 people in there, including about 30 members of my family and friends. It was a good experience.'' Miss Smith is a keen horsewoman and she is interested in a variety of sports.
Although she is studying for a career in accountancy, Miss Smith said she would like to take up modelling professionally.
Mr. Tyrell said: "I think she will make an excellent model. She is very intelligent, beautiful looking and is a beautiful person.
"I believe she is a future Miss Bermuda or Miss Bermuda Islands. She has all the qualities that the judges would be looking for.'' Mr. Tyrell said that he was pleased with the way the pageant had gone although he would have preferred a larger audience. But he said it was not a bad turnout for the first time the pageant had been held under canvass.
He said: "The girls were satisfied with everything. They all seemed to enjoy the show and were very good natured. They helped each other out by lending things to the other girls who might have forgotten them.'' PHOTO Miss McKeisha Smith.
