Director of Marine and Ports Mr. Ron Ross this week confirmed that the 6.00 a.m. and 6.00 p.m. ferry runs were "strongly being considered'' as items for the Finance Ministry's chopping board, as Budget proposals are under review.

While Mr. Ross said he could not comment in detail, he noted that the ferries running at 6.00 a.m. and 6.00 p.m. were considered overtime.

"All the Budget proposals are being considered by the Ministry of Finance,'' he said. "That is one of the options that is strongly being considered.'' But Transport Minister the Hon. Ralph Marshall stressed that the cuts in services were "not definite''.

"We're just looking at all of the options before us,'' he said, adding that if a decision is made to cut the services it would not come into effect until next April.

He said a decision would not be known until the Budget debate in February.

SPEEDING TEEN FINED $750 CTS Speeding teen fined A high-speed Police chase along with other driving offences landed a Somerset man fines totalling $750 in Magistrates' Court.

The court heard that Germaine Simmons, 16, of Cambridge Road did not have a driving licence.

Police prosecutor Sgt. Earl Kirby said Simmons was driving in the wrong direction on September 30 and sped away when pursued by Police at about 2 p.m.

He overtook two other vehicles and sped over Middle Road onto Stadium Lane, said Sgt. Kirby.

When Police finally stopped Simmons, he admitted he knew he was being pursued, Sgt. Kirby said. "I knew you were coming up to me. I should have stopped,'' Simmons said.

He pleaded guilty to dangerous driving and failing to stop at the request of a Police officer and was fined $500.

Simmons also pleaded guilty to two charges of driving without a licence, once on September 30 and again on October 8. For those offences, he was fined another $250.

MACHETE ATTACK CRM Machete attack A brave householder fought off a pair of machete-wielding intruders in his home in Long Ridge Pass, Devonshire this week.

The man heard the two intruders force their way into the house and fought with them, receiving a small cut to his finger.

A 31-year-old Warwick man has been arrested in connection with the incident and Police are continuing their inquiries.

Meanwhile, homes and guest houses in Warwick, Pembroke and Hamilton parishes were hit by break-ins over the weekend.

A total of $2,000 in cash, a watch, a video recorder and a radio were stolen during the raids.

CYCLIST INJURED AC Cyclist injured A motorcyclist suffered chest injuries after crashing into a wall at about 3.00 a.m. yesterday.

The 22-year-old man was kept overnight for observation in the hospital's intensive care unit.

Police said he apparently lost control of his Suzuki near the Heard Chapel AME Church on Glebe Road.

CAUGHT IN THE ACT CRM Caught in the act A woman thief was caught red handed inside a home on Camp Road in Warwick early on Monday morning.

The occupant managed to detain the 27-year-old Southampton woman until Police arrived and arrested her. A court appearance is expected soon.

CAR STOLEN CRM Car stolen Police are on the look-out for a stolen car, a white Nissan Sunny (number 00043) which was removed from outside a home on Devon Springs Road in Devonshire last Thursday night.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Police as soon as possible.

SCHOOLS RAIDED CRM Schools raided Two primary schools were broken into over the weekend. In both cases entry was gained through windows.

An amount of loose change was stolen from Elliott School in Devonshire, but nothing was reported missing from East End School in St. George's.
