A 24-year-old Pembroke man who defied a police roadblock and led officers on a high-speed chase was fined $3,000 in Magistrates’ Court.Alexander Raynor of Curving Avenue struck a police officer with his motorcycle as he tried to get away on January 12.He yesterday admitted assaulting Inspector Adam Hull in an effort to prevent his arrest on Warwick Lane, near the junction with South Road.The court heard that police set up a roadblock due to a traffic accident at 1.20am.Raynor turned onto Warwick Lane and sped off, ignoring officers who asked him to stop.Insp Hull was struck on the arm by Raynor’s motorcycle as he attempted to escape. Raynor yesterday told the court that he never intended to harm the officer.“The police had the road blocked off because of an accident and you knocked down a police officer and then led them on a long chase, driving in a dangerous manner,” said Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner.He fined Raynor $2,000 for assaulting Insp Hull, $500 for dangerous driving and another $500 for failing to stop for police. Raynor was ordered to pay the fines in full by February 14.
