Unregistered punts will be removed in Jew's Bay clean-up

Punts at Jew's Bay public dock in Southampton with expired or incorrect registrations or stickers will be disposed of today.

Owners were warned earlier this month to comply with licensing requirements or risk losing their punts as part of Government's Marine Vessel Disposal Initiative.

A Government spokesperson said: "The group's objective is to remove and dispose of neglected boats that present navigational threats to mariners, storage challenges to punt and larger vessel owners and health and safety threats to swimmers and marine life."

Some of the 80 punts stored at Jew's Bay dock have been registered in the past three weeks. Others risk being mistaken as sunken or abandoned boats and may be disposed of, the spokesperson added.

The initiative is the latest of at least six planned clean-ups this year. Previous clean-ups have taken place at Mill's Creek, Mullet Bay and St. George's.
