But Troy Robinson, 30, of Valley Lane, Paget, was not charged with kidnapping.

He did, however, plead not guilty to breaking and entering the home of Eileen Murray on January 3 of last year and stealing cash, vodka, gin and rum.

And he pleaded not guilty to taking and driving her car on the same day.

Robinson also denied damaging Tara Burrows' auxiliary cycle on July 15. And he pleaded not guilty to having a machete on the same day.

In addition, Robinson pleaded not guilty to threatening Ms Burrows with the intent to cause alarm and behaving in a threatening manner on July 18. And he denied entering the home of Patrica Burrows on July 18, despite a registered letter forbidding him from going on the property.

He also pleaded not guilty to disobeying a Family Court order.

Robinson -- who was released on $500 bail -- is due back in court for mention on Friday when he is also expected to be charged with kidnapping.

Apprentice electrician Lloyd Albright, of Colony Valley, Southampton, was searched by Police last Friday while he was with a group of men in a car park on Cavendish Road.

Officers found two envelopes of plant-like material on the 21-year-old. One was in his pocket and the other in his "thermal underwear''.

When asked about the drugs, which weighed 0.62 grams, Albright said: "It's only herb.'' He pleaded guilty to possessing the drugs but duty counsel Elizabeth Christopher told the court she was "very concerned'' that Albright's clean record would be tainted for life.

She asked Senior Magistrate Will Francis to consider letting Albright off the charge under Section 64 of the criminal code -- which allows offenders a second chance if they do not re-offend.

Miss Christopher explained that a drug record would stop Albright from travelling to the US if he ever wanted to study for his profession. But Mr.

Francis said his decision would not be based on the American government's policy of banning drug offenders from entering the country.

Magistrate Arthur Hodgson found Howard Anthony Swan guilty on a lesser charge of prowling rather than the original charge of breaking and entering with intent to steal.

Crown Counsel Larry Mussenden said a Dudley Hill, Paget, resident awoke at 7.45 a.m. on Sunday September 14 to find the upper sash of her bedroom window pushed down. The woman told Police she had turned on an air-conditioner and secured the window before retiring at 12.05 a.m.

She also discovered a garden chair had been moved in front of the window.

Scenes-of-Crime officers later found a fingerprint matching Swan's on the top of the sash.

Swan, of Parson's Road, was arrested and declined to make a statement or answer questions while in Police custody.

Mr. Hodgson heard testimony from Swan's stepfather that he took the defendant to work because he had injured his ankle and needed a cane to walk. And Swan's supervisor at Island Wide Security confirmed he was on duty that night at the Paget hotel and had to report hourly via radio. Swan -- who was represented by lawyer Renee Foggo -- declined to take the stand in his own defence. Mr.

Mussenden declined to cross-examine the defence witnesses.
