Students get a free lesson in Island?s natural history

A text book on local flora, fauna and creatures written by a Canadian professor and presented to schools Island-wide yesterday.

?The Natural History of Bermuda? is a 256-page hardback text which teaches the scope of Bermuda wildlife and the need to protect it. Written by professor and research scientist Martin Thomas, the book is the result of 30-years of his research.

Thanks to the Bermuda Zoological Society (BZS), all public schools will receive a copy. Schools will also receive a copy of Mr. Thomas? special report on the ecology of Harrington Sound to supplement the science and social studies curricula developed by BZS.

Student representatives from area schools Whitney Institute, Harrington Sound Primary and Francis Patton Primary received the books on behalf of the Ministry of Education on Wednesday.

?The Natural History of Bermuda? is available at the Bermuda Aquarium Museum and Zoo gift shop and bookstores throughout the Island for $48.
