On the strength of Dave Alexander's arm, Kempe & Whittle swept to a double-header win during Division C action of the Commercial Softball League
The two victories moved Kempe & Whittle to within five games of division leaders Show Bizz and they moved up a notch in the standings, leap-frogging past Flying Chef Flyers in the hotly-contested division.
Kempe & Whittle's first win against second-placed Prison Officers was easily the most memorable. With the score tied 8-8 in the bottom of the seventh and one out, Tim Coope singled home the winning run as Al Decleir raced from third base.
It was Coope's third hit of the game, helping Alexander to the pitching victory. Mike Malott was perfect at the plate, going four-for-four and smacking two doubles.
Eual Douglas launched two doubles for Prison Officers, but that was not enough for pitcher David Frost, who suffered the heartbreaking loss.
Kempe & Whittle breathed a lot easier with a commanding 21-10 victory over Skandia Sabres in the second game of their twinbill. Mallot added another four hits (he was eight-for-nine on the night) and winning pitcher Alexander helped his own cause with two hits. Dave Earls was the other hitting star for Kempe & Whittle with a double among his three hits and four RBI.
Aodh O'Murchu and Gregon Minors had three hits apiece for Skandia. Rob Eastham was the losing pitcher.
In the other game, International Risk Management topped Anfossi & Butterfield 8-5 on the strength of two hits apiece by Steve Western, Mike Daly and Ken MacDonald.
MacDonald was winning pitcher and Paul Grimsey, who also had two hits, was the loser.
BOWLING BOW In the Miller High Life league, Goslings rolled to a 20-10 victory over Team Spirit. Hank Rawlins led Goslings with a steady series while Clarence Andrews was high man for Spirit.

Leading the way were Conrad Lister and Dean Lightbourn, with the top two series of 664 and 667 while Conrad and Steven Riley loaded up to roll the top two games with scores of 244 and 242. Those numbers were behind T&E's top team game and series scores of 1,049 and 2,936.
Stevedoring Services scratched to a 151 -141 victory over Tomps Towing and the winners had the third-highest team game of 944 to pace them over the top.
Roger Raynor was brilliant for the winners while Noel Pearman of Tomps rolled the third-highest individual series of 635 but had little support from teammates.
