Hospitals Board's Outside Art Competition. Her entry, "The Spark of Life'', outclassed 20 submissions. The Spark of Life represents the caregiving and preserving of life, according to Mrs. Gardner. It can be viewed as two cupped hands that gently hold and preserve the spark of life or an eternal flame that burns in memory of all those who have died. The entries were judged by overseas sculptor George Antonisen, advertising expert Colin (Dusty) Hind, BHB executive director Sheila Manderson (shown at right), and BHB chairman Clement Talbot. The sculpture will be completed by January, 1998 to coincide with the opening of the new surgical wing.
