Devonshire residents still waiting for DAB ruling

Devonshire residents opposed to a Government housing project proposed for their area are still waiting for a decision from the Development Applications Board on whether the project can go ahead.

The DAB postponed making a decision on the proposed Bermuda Housing Corporation development at Alexandra and Mary Victoria Roads in order to make a site visit.

The board held a hearing on September 22, to hear numerous objections from area residents about the application to build 20 new homes at No?s 11, 13, 15 and 17 at Alexandra Road and No?s 2 and 4 Mary Victoria Road.

The 20 new homes proposed would be upper storey additions to existing units and current residents are concerned their quality of life will be negatively affected if the development is given the green light.

Director of Planning Rudolph Hollis toldthat the DAB has since visited the site but not yet released its decision on the matter.

Resident spokeswoman Albertha Waite said she was pleased the board members had visited the site.

?We?re glad they had a site visit, to better understand what we were trying to achieve in our objections,? she said. ?I feel a site visit will put perspective. I am glad they decided to take that route.?

The residents have had no feedback from the DAB since the visit, however.

?I called Planning yesterday and they said they had not reached a decision about the development pending additional information,? she said.
