Somerset claim compensation
players who have recently filed for transfers.
The players seeking the moves from the west-enders are defender Karl Roberts and goalkeeper Ricardo Tucker.
Roberts is looking at Second Division Vasco while Tucker has his eyes on First Division Dandy Town.
Roberts, who represented Bermuda at the senior level against Aberdeen last year in a 2-0 defeat at National Stadium when he played centre-half alongside Somerset team-mate Dennis Brown, is a college student and has only made limited appearances with the Trojans in the last two seasons. Tucker is the regular Premier Division (under 18) team goalkeeper and is also a youth international.
The club reacted swiftly by officially lodging its objection to the BFA after being informed that the duo had applied for transfers. By doing so they became the first club this year to file on these grounds.
It is not known if any other clubs will take similar action against the remaining 290 players seeking transfers.
Before leaving for England on Friday with the Bermuda cricket team, Somerset's secretary Reginald Pearman confirmed his club had officially notified the BFA of its objections and he felt that the claim was a legitimate one.
"Our position regarding players we have developed over the years hasn't changed. We view young players like these as being an asset to our programme, and both are still very young,'' said Pearman.
"We have just discussed the matter and decided to file an objection to the BFA. It's our first objection since we filed against the move of Lance Brown a few years ago.'' Somerset made history back in 1987 when they became the first club to receive $2,500 after being successful in objecting against the move of Brown to Somerset Eagles.
Somerset in fact seconded the motion made by Devonshire Colts to award $2,500 to a club as compensation for the loss of a player brought up through the junior ranks, the amount which is to be paid by the player's new club.
Neil Paynter, for whom Dandy Town paid St. George's $2,500 when he transferred three seasons ago, will be staying with Dandy Town for the 1992-93 season.
St. George's, who have been promoted to the First Division, had been hoping to get him back and had transfer papers sent to West Virginia where he is a student at Old Dominion University. But the BFA had received no transfer forms from the youngster by the deadline and he is not eligible to switch clubs.
