Wilbur Burt, 25, of Union Street in Pembroke, pleaded guilty on Friday in Magistrates' Court to breaking into Dwayne's Barber Shop and stealing $85. He also admitted he broke into Lynwood's Beauty Salon on Union Street with intent to steal.

The crimes happened between January 25 and 26, court was told.

Magistrate the Wor. John Judge sentenced Burt to nine months on each charge, to be served concurrently.

Prosecuting, Police Sgt. Ken James said Burt kicked in the front door of the barber shop and stole $25 from a cash register, as well as a piggy bank which contained $60. After he removed the money, Burt dumped the piggy bank in a garbage can, Sgt. James said.

At the beauty salon, Burt entered through an unsecured window but could not find any cash to steal, Sgt. James said.

Mr. Judge noted Burt has "a quite dreadful record,'' with numerous convictions for breaking an entering. He stole cash to support a cocaine habit, court was told.
