pleaded guilty in Supreme Court yesterday.

Randolph Granville Lighbourne, 25, pleaded guilty to robbery, unlawfully wounding security guard Mervin Wade on May 9 last year, and stealing a Yamaha 50cc motorcycle on May 8.

The security guard, employed by Safeguard Security, was attacked at the entrance to the Front Street bank.

The attacker fled but was pursued and captured by the owner of Safeguard Security, who happened to be riding by on a bicycle at the time.

Lighbourne's behaviour was "completely out of character'', his lawyer Mr.

Richard Hector told Puisne Judge Mr. Justice Ward yesterday. Mr. Ward ordered a social inquiry report, and scheduled sentencing for April 30.

Lighbourne, of Scott's Hill in Somerset, was arrested in November and is free on bail.

Last month, Lighbourne filed a writ against the Police, demanding the return of gifts and other belongings he says were taken from his home during a Police search on December 27.

Lighbourne said Police searched his house in connection with a $328,000 bank robbery in November -- a robbery he said he had nothing to do with.

Another man, Eugene Hilgrove Ming, pleaded guilty to attempting to rob a Bank of Bermuda employee last December 27.

Lawyer Mr. Tim Marshall said his client has been cooperating with Police and has no history of similar offences. Puisne Judge Mr. Justice Ward ordered a social inquiry report, and set sentencing for April 29.

Ming, 37, remains free on bail.

The incident occurred shortly before 11 a.m. when a man handed a note demanding cash to a teller at the Bank of Bermuda's Church Street branch. The man suddenly fled before any money was handed over.
