Bermuda Grand Prix postponed

The Butterfield Bermuda Grand Prix (BGP) will return to its usual April date after this year's edition was postponed due to bad weather forecast for this weekend.

Organisers have postponed the event, which was to be held on Saturday, until April 16 and 17, 2011.

Bermuda Bicycle Association (BBA) president Peter Dunne confirmed the decision yesterday.

He said: "We are committed to making this major event a significant sporting spectacle for Bermuda and feel that once again Mother Nature has worked against us," said Dunne. "As a result we are planning on moving the race to April when it will be the BBA's season opening event.

"In the early days of the BGP the race was held in the spring and returning to that time of year will move us away from the potential for the severe weather that has interrupted the event four times in the last eight years.

"We are thankful to have Butterfield as our sponsor as they have been actively involved in all aspects of the event planning and we look forward to working with them in advance of April, 2011."
