Dalton E Tucker Primary students raise money for musical instruments
Students set out to be as fit as a fiddle in a sponsored walk to raise money for musical instruments. Pupils from Dalton E. Tucker Primary School took part in the 5th Annual Healthy Heart Walk on Friday, joined by their relatives and teachers.
The walk – which aims to promote healthy lifestyles, was also a fund-raiser, with students obtaining pledges towards new school instruments. Marie Beach of the Department of Health gave a 'pep talk' before the walkers set off and students, family members and teachers then took off around Hog Bay Park. Ms Beach said: "Dalton E. Tucker is aiming to be the healthiest school in Bermuda and this is fantastic exercise, moving them closer to their overall goal.
"Healthy Schools believes that healthy teachers will be absent less often, and healthy students will be more likely to reach their academic potential."
School principal Gladstone Thompson said: "Walking is good for everyone, it helps develop fitness, and as an added bonus for parents or grandparents, it also helps children enjoy a sound sleep."
The event was sponsored by the Bank of Bermuda Foundation, Winners Edge and Barritt & Son. Students taking part also had the chance to win a bicycle or spa package for their teacher.
