Bermuda wallop hosts
decade yesterday and by the time it was over their oppponents probably wished they had stayed away even longer.
Talk about being nice to your hosts.
Led by three tries from Heath (Butch) Robinson and a pair each from Patrick Cooper and Michael Montgomery, the locals got off to an explosive start in the week-long tournament by flattening Trinidad `B' 78-5 on a hot and humid day in Trinidad and Tobago.
Bermuda built an awesome 45-0 lead after the first half before "slowing down because we wanted to conserve our energy since it was so hot,'' said team captain Alvin Harvey last night.
The team got the rest of their tries from Harvey, Scott Correia, Ashley Redmond, Dave Cook, Danny Forsythe and Phil Heaney. Heaney also contributed with several conversions.
The game at the President's Grounds began on a low note for the locals because coach Keiron Peacock was sidelined with the stomach flu. It took the squad just six minutes to get the scoreboard clicking with a nifty back row move and score from Cooper. Needless to say, the first half of the game was played on the Trinidad portion of the field.
"The guys went all out, it was a tremendous effort,'' added Harvey.
Bermuda will now face Guyana in their final round-robin game tomorrow afternoon and head into the contest extremely confident. Guyana lost their first game to Trinidad `B' on Sunday.
A victory for Bermuda will guarantee a trip to the finals on Friday.
