when he intervened in a row at a Front Street nightclub last month.

Jeffrey Redmond received a three-inch cut to the back of his hand, a magistrate heard on Tuesday.

He was attacked as he tried to calm 19-year-old Jevon A. Bean, said Insp.

Peter Duffy, prosecuting.

Bean, who is unemployed and living with his grandmother in Devonshire, pleaded guilty to unlawful wounding and possessing an offensive weapon when he appeared in court on Tuesday.

Insp. Duffy said the incident occurred at 1 a.m. on July 18 after Bean saw a man sitting with a "lady friend'' on the nightclub's balcony.

Bean approached him and told him to light one of the woman's cigarettes.

A row blew up when the man refused and Redmond and a friend stepped in to defuse it.

Bean had seized an empty bottle from a nearby table, smashed it on the ground, and waved it in the man's face.

Redmond tapped Bean on the arm, and the latter lashed out at him, striking his hand.

Redmond was rushed to hospital, and Bean ejected from the nightclub.

The Wor. John Judge ordered a social inquiry report, and adjourned the case until August 25.
