A garbage truck worker and two motorists wound up in hospital after separate road collisions over the weekend.

Police were called to the scene of the truck incident on North Shore Road, Pembroke, near the junction with Clarke's Lane at 12.40pm on Friday.

A spokesman said: "It appears that a garbage truck was stationary in the westbound lane and a motorcycle was traveling east in the eastbound lane. The victim, a 54-year-old Hamilton parish man, was working behind the garbage truck and was struck by the motorcycle as he went to collect trash from the opposite side of the road.

"He sustained fractured ribs, abrasions to his head, bruising to his right shoulder and an ankle injury."

The garbage truck worker was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital, where he was said to be in stable condition on a general ward last night. The rider of the motorcycle, a 19-year-old man from St. George's, sustained abrasions to his left hand.

Twelve hours later, in the early hours of Saturday, Police were again called to the North Shore Road this time at the junction with Loyal Hill Pass in Devonshire. On this occasion, a car and motorcycle had come into collision.

The spokesman said: "It appears that the car was traveling east on North Shore Road when the driver, a 27-year-old Devonshire woman, attempted to make a right turn on to Loyal Hill Pass and the vehicles collided.

"The rider of the motorcycle, a 61-year-old St. George's man, sustained injuries to his left leg. He was taken to KEMH via ambulance for treatment. The driver of the car was not injured."

Both vehicles suffered extensive damage. The injured man was sent home after hospital treatment.

Around 5.20 a.m on Saturday, Police attended the scene of a single-vehicle bike crash on York Street in St. George's. The spokesman said: "It appears that a motorcycle was traveling east on York Street when the rider, a 28-year-old St. George's man, lost control and collided with a pole."
