Gospel rapper has a message
A 13-year-old gospel rapper from Georgia told a group of Bermudian students that the Island was far ahead of the US in accepting Christianity.
?You guys allow Christ in your school, you are much further ahead than the states,? said ?Lil iRocc?. ?If anyone wants to take God out of your school you fight for it,? he added after he met with a group of middle and high school students at the Bermuda College last week.
Award-winning ?Lil iRocc? Williams travelled with his father ?Big Rocc? Williams to Bermuda to perform and speak with students close to his age. Mr. Williams told the group they could retire at the age of 20 if they focus on what God has set out for them.
?God knew what you were going to be when you were born,? he told a group of middle and high school students that gathered at the Bermuda College on Saturday afternoon. He added that if young people listen and are conscious of what God wants them to do they would be able to retire by the age of 20 or 21.
?Don?t let anybody stop you, you go for it,? Mr. Williams said.
?Lil iRocc? told the students he was saved when he was seven-years-old and continues to pursue his dream of being a singer. He has won a Stellar Award for children?s performance compact disc and was nominated for a Dove Award for gospel hip-hop compact disc.
The young rapper showcased his talents at two concerts on Friday and Saturdayents on Saturday afternoon.?There have been many times when I have wanted to quit because it was taking my time away as a kid,? Lil iRocc told the students. But he said he soon realised that he was an example for many young people and had a responsibility to inspire them.
Student Raynelle Dillas expressed her desire to be a singer and was prompted by Mr. Williams to rap. She also recited poems that she wrote, both garnering applause from her audience. The Williams? attend a non-denominational church called the Newbirth Cathedral in Lithonia, just outside Atlanta.
Lil Rocc encouraged the young students to become excited about God and to focus on their dreams. ?Create your own thing and don?t be cloned. Don?t let the world tell you who you are,? Mr. Williams said.
