Count your blessings: Sheppard
week to "count its blessings'' -- and wage a holy war on drugs and domestic violence.
The Rev. Henry Sheppard, who led services at Christ Church in Warwick, quoted from Shakespeare's Bermuda-inspired play "The Tempest'' to describe the Island's charms.
And he said: "We all depend on one another and Bermuda must count its blessings. It must cast off its despondency with a way of life which most people in most other lands would count as richly blessed.
"In so fair a house, good things must dwell.'' Rev. Sheppard was speaking at the weekly Hamilton Rotary meeting. He said Bermuda was riddled with drugs and domestic abuse, adding that concerted efforts had to be made to combat those problems. He also called on Bermudians to help revive the declining tourism industry, which can be "our staple foundation''. "Adventure, not complacency, is of the essence if tourism is to keep its romance,'' he said. "But in Bermuda, we see too little chance for too many...a second chance available so sparingly.'' He said the Bible offered workable solutions to modern-day problems.
