After decades of transmitting to mariners in the North Atlantic, Bermuda Harbour Radio?s roles have evolved and now its name has too.

The facility?s new name ? Bermuda Maritime Operations Centre ? better reflects the facility?s functions and its combined roles of Coast Radio Station, Rescue Coordination Centre and Vessel Traffic Surveillance, a statement from BMOC said.

The title Maritime Operations Centre is used around the world and it should be easy for both seafarers and the general public to understand, the statement added.

Local boaters radioing in should now call ?Bermuda Radio? instead of Harbour Radio and use the call sign ?ZBR? which might take some getting used to, said Chief Radio Officer/RCC Controller Martin Williams.
