Renegades clinch title

Renegades seized the Amstel League First XV title with three games remaining on the basis of a 41-3 demolition of hapless Mariners.

As expected, the Renegades backs dominated the game, scoring five tries between them.

Renegades were able to control the ball much better and give David Taylor an ample supply of ball to launch attacks through Phil Heaney and Barry Whitehead who both scored tries.

Other scorers included two tries from Taylor, the first one after weaving his way through half the Mariners team.

Pat Jones and Dave Cluely also crossed the Mariners line and Heaney contributed four conversions and a penalty to bring his tally to 16 points for the game.

Police 7, Teachers 30 Teachers were always in control of this match against Police as they pummelled their opponents 30-7 in First XV play in the Amstel League.

Michael Montgomery scored first after following up a good kick by Andrew Correia.

Other tries came from Wayne Washington and David Cooke after good support play between forwards and backs, bringing the score to 2-0 at half-time.

Teachers' best try came when Correia broke through a line-out and fed the ever-improving Hook, who broke two tackles in a 30-yard burst to the line.

Andre Simons kicked two penalties and two conversions to make the score 30-0.

Five minutes from full time Gary Jackson intercepted a Montgomery pass and raced 60 yards for Police's only try, which Gary Osborne converted.

In Second XV matches on Saturday Renegades downed Teachers 23-10 while Police edged Mariners 21-19.
