Heel-So-Quick 10-A-Side tournament yesterday at National Sports Club.

Teachers were convincing winners in the opening game against Mariners by a 33-10 margin and followed this with a 28-0 trouncing of Renegades. However, it was an unlikely Police side that handed Teachers their only loss of the day in their last game 7-5.

Police had denied Teachers any set-piece possessions by driving well in the scrums and competing against Bobby Hurdle in the line-outs.

Although Teachers, Police and Renegades had all notched up two victories each and stood level on points at the end, Teachers were deservedly declared the winners by virtue of scoring nine tries to Renegades and Police's six.

Outstanding individual performances for each club were put in by Tom Dixon of Renegades, Mariners' Dave Conway, Danny Cozens for Police and Teachers' Patrick Cooper.

Bermuda Youth 19 Renegades Youth 11 Bermuda Youth won the annual New Year's Day event for the fourth successive year when they edged past Renegades Youth 19-11 on account of three tries and two conversions compared to one try and two penalties.

Earlier in the week it was feared that Renegades would not be able to organise a team, however all credit must go to Chris Dunn, a returning student for rallying his side together at the last minute.

In front of the largest crowd seen this season at Nationals, Bermuda deservedly won after demonstrating good attacking and finishing skills.

This was epitomised by Kent Hayward when he romped over for a try after running 40 yards following a perfect pass by Eddie King.

However, Renegades were camped in Bermuda's 22 for at least 20 minutes in the second half after some good forward drives.

Bermuda had the edge in the back and were able to counter-attack following some good probing kicks by Michael Cain of Renegades.

Other tries for Bermuda were scored by King and captain Bobby Hurdle.
