'I was thinking about the drugs'
A man was locked up for 18 months after he claimed he stole a credit card because he was hypnotised by drugs.
Julius Carmen Caines denied attempting to dishonestly obtain a gold chain worth $137.60 from ER Aubrey Jewellers and using a false instrument, namely a Bank of Bermuda Visa card on September 8.
Magistrate Shade Subair heard from Crown Counsel Nicole Smith, Caines went to the jewellery store and attempted to buy a gold rope chain.
The cashier told him the name on the credit card did not match the ID card. Caines took the card and fled the scene.
The next day, Caines was seen in a holding cell at the Hamilton Police Station for another matter and was arrested for attempted burglary.
Throughout the summary from the crown, Caines interrupted causing Ms Subair to repeatedly quiet him.
When asked him if he anything to say, the 38-year old said: "I was hypnotised by the $50 and I made a silly mistake. I was thinking about the drugs. I was under the influence of cocaine and medication for the hospital. I'm not responsible for my actions".
