Police spokesperson P.c. Gary Venning said a 20-year-old Pembroke man suffered head injuries on Friday night after allegedly being assaulted by another man.

The incident took place around 9.15 p.m. on Middle Road in Warwick, near Khyber Pass.

P.c. Venning said the victim, who was with a female, became embroiled in an altercation with his alleged assailant.

The man was punched and kicked about the body. He attended the hospital to seek medical attention to close a facial wound.

P.c. Venning said a similar incident took place during the early hours of Sunday morning on Front Street in Hamilton.

The 28-year-old victim told Police that he was talking to a girl when he was approached by another man and punched in the face in an unprovoked attack.

The 3.30 a.m. incident resulted in the victim being taken to the hospital to receive stitches to close the wounds to his face.

Police inquiries are continuing.

MONUMENT OPEN PAR Monument open A historical monument on Ordnance Island in St. George's is open to visitors despite rumours to the contrary.

Reports had circulated that the replica of the Deliverance , the first ship built in Bermuda to take supplies to the starving colony of Jamestown, Virginia in 1610, was closed.

The replica was built by the Bermuda Junior Service League in 1965. It was used as a tourist attraction and educational tool and was opened to the public in 1971. All admission proceeds were donated to charities.

It was then sold in 1995 to Nicholas Duffy and Graham Maddocks who also operate St. George's Adventure Tours -- a water and land tour business. The monies raised from the sale were donated to charity by BJSL.

Mr. Duffy confirmed that the business was open and operating.

"It is certainly not closed down.'' POST OFFICE FLOODED GVT Post office flooded A broken toilet line flooded the Devonshire post office yesterday morning.

A Fire Services spokesman said a room, roughly 15-feet by 20-feet, was covered by half an inch of water.

Special service personnel used a squeegee and water vacuums to remove the water.

No damage estimate was available.

CHURCH EYES NURSERY CHU Church eyes nursery Planning permission has been applied for to use a Devonshire church hall as a nursery.

Christ Church on Middle Road wants to use its hall as a childrens' day care centre, changing its use from a social facility.

In addition plans have been submitted for vending machines at Market Place, Heron Bay, Middle Road, and at M. Soares and Son, Spanish Point Road.

Market Place at Shelly Bay Plaza, North Shore Road, have also applied to install an automated teller machine at their premises.
