Union goal hero vows revenge over ISL top dogs
Two-goal hero Shaki Pearman has backed Union to triumph over final favourites Storm when the teams meet up in a rematch of last year's showpiece at the National Sports Centre (NSC) tonight.
Pearman bagged a brace in the Union's 5-3 win over the Royal in Tuesday night's semi-final and is comfortable with his team's underdog status.
"My team is focused and ready, but we know it won't be easy so we must be prepared," said Pearman, who wasn't part of last year's final, which finished 5-4 after extra-time in Storm's favour.
"It's a final so both teams will come with the pressure to win the match.
"We always come with our best foot forward and hopefully this will work out as well.
"I didn't play last year, but with this being my first year I'm ready to play and help my side win our first ISL title.
"We have always been the underdogs this year, so we expect nothing different."
Union have had to rise above adversity this season having had their coach Stanton Lewis replaced by Jomar Wilkinson early in the season.
They have often been forced to go into games with no goalkeeper or without a full quota of players.
Neverthless, they narrowly missed out on winning their division by head-to-head wins against the Royal and having to play two games in four days could have crippled other sides.
But Union used their set-backs as a catalyst to prove it's possible to play three games in a week and win the title.
"This season has been up and down for us, but we knew what it was going to take before the season started so we will do what we have been doing all season and take things in our stride" said Pearman.
"This season we either have played without a keeper or only nine guys show up so we have been through our problems and haven't complained but actually got on with what is required of us.
"We will keep playing and fighting for what we want, which is the title.
"I personally think we will show the heart and determination to win the match and this will get us over the hump.
"They already think they have already won.
I like I said we are the underdogs so we will be ready and see what happens on the pitch."
The final kicks off tonight at 8 p.m. at the NSC.
