National Museum of Bermuda given $2,000 by Hamilton Princess
The National Museum of Bermuda has received a $2,000 boost from the Hamilton Princess as part of its recognition of celebrated historian Clarence Maxwell.
The hotel honoured Dr Maxwell last month at its Black History Month dinner and pledged to donate proceeds from the event to the charity of his choice.
The Green family, who owned the hotel, matched the $1,000 raised at the dinner, to bring the total donation to the museum to $2,000.
Elena Strong, director of the National Museum of Bermuda, said: “We are thrilled that Hamilton Princess Beach Club has honoured and celebrated Dr Maxwell and his important historical research that sheds light on Bermudian enslaved merchants and mariners, and how Bermuda helped shape the development of the Atlantic World.
“We so appreciate the generosity of the hotel and the Green family, and their commitment to recognise local scholars and support Black History Month."
Tim Morrison, general manager of Hamilton Princess & Beach Club, added: “We are extremely pleased to be able to support the National Museum of Bermuda who do such important work in preserving Bermuda’s heritage and educating both locals and visitors to our island about its rich history.”
