Big week for BSX
since daily trading commenced four years ago, 176,577 shares worth just over $2 million changed hands last week.
The largest previous one week total was $1.4 million on volume of 116,627 for the week ending August 2, 1995.
Trading of TeleBermuda was heaviest -- 46,665 shares in the telecommunications company changed hands -- followed by Bank of Butterfield, Bank of Bermuda and Argus, Belco and Telco.
The index, which has been hitting record lows recently, posted a healthy gain after a strong finish by the Island's banks on Friday.
Bank of Butterfield led advances closing up 50 cents at $9.50. Other gainers included Bank of Bermuda and Solar Enterprises.
Telco, BAS and Argus fell.
Issues closing unchanged were TeleBermuda, Bermuda Home, KFC (Bermuda), BF&M preferred, BSL and Belco.
The index gained 13.78 points closing at 924.13 rebounding from a record low set a week earlier.
