Private jet dispute settled
Bermuda Aviation Services (BAS) has agreed to waive its exclusive rights to offer private jet services at LF Wade International Airport in a deal with Government which could cost taxpayers dearly.
Government did not reveal how it paid for the settlement. A costly legal battle has been ongoing for the past two-and-a-half years at taxpayer expense.
The announcement was made yesterday by the Ministry of Tourism and Transport.
It follows a Supreme Court order that Government pay more than $200,000 in damages for contravening BAS's rights, which run until 2014.
As exclusively reported by The Royal Gazette last month, Government had given BAS's rival operator, Sovereign Flight Support, permission to provide a private jet service.
