Victorious colts draw first blood for St George’s

St. George’s, 211 all out, beat Somerset 180 all out, by 31 runs.St. George’s beat Somerset by 31 runs to retain the Colt Cup Match title at Wellington Oval thanks in large part to Clay Darrell and Onias Bascome.Batting first, Bascome opened up the innings for the champions and scored an impressive 76 at the top of the order.Macai Simmons scored 57 to steady the middle order after the departure of Bascome, while Kieshon Smith scored 27 to help get the side to their eventual total of 211.Tre Manders took five wickets for Somerset, with the youngster playing a key role in the reply for his side. Kamal Easton, Antonio Darrell, Marcus Johnson, Justin Corday, Chikosu Basden all grabbed one wicket apiece.In reply, the challengers could only manage 180 before being bowled out, with Manders scoring 77 after coming in at number four, while opener Shaquille Jones scored 24 to get the side off to a good start.Manders would eventually fall with game in balance, although he couldn’t be blamed for taking the onus into his own hands with wickets falling around him early and often.Darrell took four wickets, whiles Simmons chipped in with two wickets.Zeko Burgess, Delray Rollins, Christian Burgess, and Bascome all claimed one wicket each in St George’s win.
