<Bz55>Mercedes hits the road
The Mercedes showroom in Woodlands Road opened in mid-February and has been doing a roaring trade.
“It’s been very busy — every day we are doing two or three quotes for the banks and we are doing a lot of emailed brochures.
“There’s a lot of interest that Mercedes is back in Bermuda.”
Mercs were last imported the best part of 20 years ago but for a long time size limits meant no more could be imported.
But restrictions were loosened a few years ago which allowed the B and C class to come.
Old Merc fans are keen to get one of the new models.
“There’s a lot of them looking to sell their cars, which are still in excellent condition, and purchase the new Mercedes.”
Executive Autos is selling three Mercedes models — the Family Class (B 200 class), the C Class sports coupe and the top of the line SLK which is a two-seater hard top convertible.
Both the B and C class are proving popular said Mr. Davidge.
The two-litre B family class car comes with a sticktronic gear box which allows drivers to have either stick shift or automatic gear changes.
A stick gear model with cloth seats is priced at $57,000 while for $75,000 you can get a 12-speaker surround sound, sports suspension, racing wheels, chrome trim, lights which come on automatically at night and a rear-view mirror which dips automatically if someone at your rear shines their lights.
“We have a lot of interest in that car. Before the end of the year we will have a numerous amount coming in on the Island.
“We can also add a hands-free phone.”
The C class sports coupe starts at $64,000 with stick shift and cloth seats.
The showroom has a version at $68,500 chrome wheels, leather trim, sticktronic gear box and a 1.8 super charged engine and rear wheel drive.
The SLK, which also has the 1.8 supercharged engine, is a hard top two-seater convertible which needs to be specially ordered.
People can put an order in for the car with all the options they want after placing a 50 percent deposit, explained Mr. Davidge.
“No car is sitting here for a couple of years before they go on the road.”
The Merc also comes with a six-year anti-perforation warranty on the body and a two-year mechanical warranty covering parts.
Executive Autos also has diagnostic equipment for keeping the autos in tip top condition.
Trained staff have been using it on some of the imported Mercedes taxis.
“We might down the road bring in some taxis but we are not 100 percent sure,” said Mr. Davidge.
And the company has also had interest in the smaller Mercedes A class vehicle which they might start shipping in.
However Mr. Davidge points out that the Merc letter classes don’t equate to letter categories used by TCD for car sizes.
