cricket tournament here ended over the weekend just as it had begun -- with a pair of defeats.

The Island's injury-depleted squad will return tomorrow, having lost all six of their matches, the final two at the hands of Zone A winners Guyana yesterday and the Windward Islands on Saturday.

Guyana's victory ensured they maintained their 100 percent record as they defeated Bermuda by 109 runs in the final group match at the Albion Ground.

The 235-run victory target proved too much for Bermuda and they finished on 126 for six off their 42 overs.

Guyana posted 234 for five off their allotted 42 overs in a match shortened because of a 20-minute stoppage through rain.

The home team took full advantage of a depleted Bermuda attack and scored runs freely.

The charge was led by West Indies middle order batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaul, who entertained the large crowd with some fluent strokes in his unbeaten 69, made off 43 balls with six fours and one six.

Also getting into the act were Roger Harper with 44 off 62 balls, Andre Percival with 42 off 49 balls.

Bermuda wilted under the pressure from the Guyana bowlers and never came close to upstaging their hosts.

Captain Carl Hooper, who shared the new ball with Reon King, claimed two for 12 and leg-spinner Mahendra Nagamootoo two for 24.

Top scoring for Bermuda was Janeiro Tucker with 43 off 64 balls with two fours and three sixes. Dean Minors supported with 22.

Guyana finished the zone with maximum 12 points from their six wins. They will now meet Trinidad and Tobago, winners of Zone B, in the final on Saturday at Bourda.

In other matches yesterday the Windwards beat Barbados by one wicket in a match reduced to 42 overs at Blairmont. Barbados scored 232-9 and the Windwards replied with 233-9 off 41.5 overs.

In the two matches in Jamaica, the Leeward Islands beat Canada by 104 runs (304-5 to 200-7) while Trinidad and Tobago beat Jamaica by five wickets.

On Saturday a fine all-round performance by Charlie Marshall couldn't prevent Bermuda from losing to the Windward Islands by 37 runs.

Marshall grabbed three wickets and scored a defiant 86 but the Windwards' 228 for six off their 50 overs was too much for the Bermudians who replied with 191 for nine.

Bermuda were not at full strength following injuries to three key players -- Bruce Perinchief, Roger Blades and Glenn Smith -- and the sudden recall of Jeff Richardson by his employers. They were forced to turn to coach Allan Douglas who kept wicket.

The Windwards' innings was built around a 122-run opening stand between the aggressive Dawnley Joseph and Joey Pierre, and a fifth-wicket stand of 67 by Lee Stephens and Nixon McLean.

Jospeh made 67 with six fours, Pierre 61 with only two fours in a 91-ball innings, while Stephens and McLean each hit 31. Marshall led Bermuda's bowling with three for 61 off ten overs.

Bermuda made a spirited effort to achieve their target but there was little support for top scorer and man-of-the-match Marshall. He was 14 short of his century when he was trapped lbw by McLean after hitting five fours in a 113-ball innings.

Marshall featured in the only worthy partnerships -- 72 with captain Albert Steede (21), and 57 for the fourth wicket with Dean Minors (15).

Paceman Denison Thomas and leg spinner Rawl Lewis captured 2-34 and 2-28 respectively and extras contributed 32 runs.

In Saturday's other Zone A match, Guyana defeated Barbados by 78 runs (scores: Guyana 270-7, Barbados 192-9). In Zone B, Trinidad and Tobago defeated the Leeward Islands by eight wickets (Leewards 110 all out, Trinidad and Tobago 113-2) and Jamaica beat Canada by seven wickets (Canada 174-6, Jamaica 175-3).
