Small plane in emergency landing drama at airport

First responders and emergency landing personnel rushed to LF Wade International Airport last night after a Cessna Citation aircraft aborted its initial landing.

An airport spokesman said: “Due to an indication light in the cockpit that signalled a possible malfunction with landing gear it appeared that the landing gear was successfully deployed, however, was not locking in position. The aircraft was placed in a temporary holding pattern whilst the pilot attempted to rectify the fault,” he said.

“Arriving British Airways flight 2233 was cleared to land whilst the aircraft was holding.

“At approximately 6pm, the pilot declared an emergency. All response personnel were advised and the airport’s standard emergency procedures were put into affect including the temporary closure of surrounding roadways,” he added.

The plane, which had two crew and no passengers, successfully landed just after 6.30pm at the Clearwater end of the airfield.
