A guest worker admitted to drunk driving.

George Figueiredo, 27, of Idlewood Drive, Hamilton Parish, was arrested in the early hours of August 4 when he was riding a bike west in front of a Police car on the Causeway, swerving from side to side. After almost colliding with the wall, officers pulled him over, Magistrates' Court heard yesterday.

Figueiredo was unsteady on his feet and smelled strongly of alcohol. The officers took him to the Hamilton Police Station for a breathalyser test. Results from the test were not revealed in court.

The defendant was fined $1,000 and disqualified from all vehicles for 12 months.

Theft trial fixed for September 14

A mother said it was impossible her 16-year-old son stole more than $8,000 of entertainment goods because he was in the house all day.

Dionti Bean, of Train Track Lane, Paget, pleaded not guilty to entering as a trespasser a house in Warwick and stealing a Sony PlayStation two video game valued at $350, 70 PlayStation games valued at $5,600, five X Box games valued at $400, four Nintendo Game Cube games valued at $320, four DVDs worth $1,200, a silver and black Kyocera cell phone valued at $400, a Blue-tooth cell phone headset valued at $80, a brown wooden jewellery box with assorted jewellery worth $500 and $5 in US currency. The total value of the items is $8,855.

Magistrates' Court heard from Crown counsel Takiyah Burgess the theft took place between 6.55 a.m. and 8 p.m. on May 24. The complainants had left their home for the day to watch the Heritage Day parade and returned to find the items missing.

His mother, who was not named in court, claims he was home all day with her and her husband until they left the house at 7 p.m. She said she called and spoke with him at 7.33 p.m. before he left to go to his father's home at 8 p.m. She also said that it is impossible that he committed the offence. Bean's trial will take place September 14 in Magistrates' Court. He was released on $2,000 bail with one surety.

Teenager denies possessing bladed article

A 16-year old boy yesterday denied possessing a bladed article.

Sanchey Grant, of North Shore Road, Hamilton parish, pleaded not guilty in Magistrates' Court to having in his possession a five-inch knife, at Middle Place. His trial will take place on September 4. He was released on $1,000 bail with one surety.
