Bermuda features in Samsung commercial

Samsung: A screen grab from the new GALAXY Tab S advert

A diver leaping from the cliffs of Admiralty House Park features in the latest globally broadcast television commercial for technology giant Samsung.

The advert for the company’s latest Galaxy Tab S tablet features a series of stunning images contrasting the colour quality of the tablet’s AMOLED screen next to traditional LCD screens.

And as well as giving an international audience a glimpse of Bermuda’s favourite summer pastime, the advert also includes footage of lush foliage at Southlands.

In June The Royal Gazette revealed that a film crew from Los-Angeles-based production company Epic Films had been on the Island for several weeks last month and shot the footage over two days.

But the company was reluctant to reveal who had commissioned the shooting, saying only that it was for “one of the world’s biggest technology and lifestyle companies”.

“Bermuda has some amazing cliffs and there’s quite a tradition of children jumping off these cliffs,” production manager Matthew Binns said.

“We went to St David’s Head but ended up filming at Admiralty House Park, which is almost like a film studio. The whole experience was amazing.”

The 30-second commercial shows side-by-side footage of US pro-athlete Mike Wilson spinning gracefully towards crystal clear water — one segment displayed on a regular LCD screen and the other on Samsung’s latest tablet. A caption then invites the viewer to decide which image “looks more breathtaking?”

The format is repeated during the sequence of foliage at Southside, when viewers are asked the question: “Which looks more rejuvenating?”
