KFC has hit back at “unsubstantiated” union assertions that the company treated staff unfairly.Claims by the Bermuda Industrial Union that KFC broke the terms of last year’s Supreme Court injunction were described by KFC director Jason Benevides as “theatrics” and “sensational and unsupported public accusations”.BIU head Chris Furbert alleged on Tuesday that restaurant managers had been “bullying staff” at Kentucky Fried Chicken Bermuda (KFCB).Responded Mr Benevides: “It seems that the BIU’s approach is ‘Why let the facts get in the way of a good story?’.”He said the union should have approached KFCB or the courts with its issues, before airing allegations to the media.Mr Benevides said the KFCB and Kentucky Fried Chicken Operations do not accept that they have violated the injunction, treated any employees unfairly, or gone against the human rights of employee June Douglas.The BIU had earlier claimed that the union member was fired after she provided evidence for an affidavit submitted by the union against KFC.Mr Benevides added that KFC found the union’s allegation’s “bizarre” coming “less than a week in advance of the scheduled start of Labour Disputes Tribunal proceedings”.
