A 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of impaired driving after his car hit a wall and flipped over in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Police were called to the scene at the junction of North Shore Road and Stepney Lane in Pembroke at 4.20 a.m.

According to a spokesman it appears that the car, a white Toyota Yaris, was travelling west on North Shore Road when the driver lost control and it collided with a wall. The vehicle flipped and spun before coming to a rest in the eastbound lane, and was extensively damaged.

The driver, from Pembroke, was taken to King Edward II Memorial Hospital for treatment to a head injury but later released.
