Taxi driver disqualified

Tyrone Burt, 26, of Knapton Hill, pleaded guilty to acting Senior Magistrate the Wor. Cheryl-Ann Mapp.

Sgt. Earl Kirby, prosecuting, told Mrs. Mapp that at 5 a.m. on December 12 Police officers responded to an accident at Harrington Sound Road.

The officers found a taxi on the right side of the road with damage to the front and left side. The taxi's passenger was also trapped inside.

Burt of Smith's Parish admitted to being the driver, and Police noticed a strong smell of alcohol on his breath.

A blood/alcohol test gave a reading of more than twice the legal limit.

Mrs. Mapp told Burt: "You put your life and the passenger's life in jeopardy.

It was a senseless act. I hope you didn't charge the passenger. I wouldn't have paid you.'' Burt told Mrs. Mapp that he was sorry for his actions.

Mrs. Mapp fined him $400 and banned him from driving all vehicles for one year.
