Insurance company, BF&M has donated $25,000 towards the cost of running the hospital’s vaccination clinic.

The donation came in response to an appeal by the Bermuda Hospitals Charitable Foundation which hopes to raise $220,000 to cover a shortfall in funding.

The money will go towards costs associated with the infrastructure, staffing and administration of the vaccination programme at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital.

The vaccine itself is provided by the British government.

John Wight, group chairman and chief executive of BF&M, said: “We recognise that the ongoing impact of the pandemic is stretching community resources as never before, as well as making unprecedented demands on our health workers.

“We want to take this opportunity to thank the many health workers, nurses, administrators, contact tracers, doctors, testing and lab staff who are on the frontline tackling Covid-19, by showing our support through this donation.”

Jane Spurling, director of BHCF, added: “We want to thank BF&M for responding to the call for aid from the business community, supplementing the generous donations already received from individuals, to help us reach our target.”

Earlier this week, the Green Family donated $100,000.
