The approach of influenza season has prompted an annual vaccination drive to protect against the virus and reduce the risk of serious illness and complications.

The Ministry of Health will offer the first round of protective shots on Saturday, from 10am to 2pm at the Hamilton Health Centre.

It will be offered at the same times on October 7 at St George’s Cricket Club and October 8 at Boaz Island Community Field in Sandys.

People aged 12 years and above can avail, at $20 per shot for adults and children, while seniors aged 65 and older can receive the jab free of charge. Payment can be made online or with cash. Credit and debit card facilities will not be available.

Residents can complete a vaccine consent form and pay online before attending, to reduce paperwork and wait times. Those unable to do so can sign at the flu express.

The ministry recommended the shot for people at increased risk of flu complications, including seniors, healthcare workers, caregivers, essential service workers and people with chronic medical conditions.

Flu vaccination is also available through physicians and the Department of Health.

The ministry recommends the shot for everyone aged six months and older.

Flu express vaccination will only be provided to people in good health. Residents should dress comfortably to allow easy access to the upper arm.
