Get ready for some dancing in the streets

The duo Prestege

Music and dancing.....in Bermuda’s streets? That’s exactly what’s on the cards next month as part of the week-long Music and Jazz Festival.Buskers will roam the City of Hamilton, there will be free lunchtime concerts and, to top it off, an evening showcase of entertainment.“We are really excited because the festival will feature seasoned and well known musicians and performers in Bermuda,” said organiser Danilee Trott. “It is giving them an opportunity to remind everyone about the amazing local talent that we have here that a lot of time goes unnoticed.”She said the Festival would also fill the void left by the Music Festival, held in previous years. Two bands will perform at each of the lunchtime concerts, held around the city from noon to 2pm. The City of Hamilton will provide seating music lovers just have to bring their lunch.“In addition, throughout the city we will be encouraging our busker programme,” said Ms Trott. “This is where musicians can set up in different locations and perform for the public. We are encouraging the public to support our local musicians that are out doing that throughout the week.”The entertainment showcase is slated for Sunday, November 11 and will feature tenor saxophonist Deric Dyer and the CMJF Band. Mr Dyer has performed with many well known entertainers including Tina Turner, Bryan Ferry, Roger Hodgson of Supertramp. Prestege, Steve Easton, The Kennel Boys, and Joy T Barnum are among the list of musicians also to perform.“It will be a great day because the next day is a holiday,” said Ms Trott. “There are two shows in the showcase; you can purchase a ticket for one or both. We are really excited. We have been playing with the idea of having a music festival for a couple of years and trying to figure out if we have support from the community and musicians. Everyone is really enthused.”She hoped that this event would be a stepping stone to an even bigger event next year that could possibly end with a large outdoor concert.“But this is a start and we are hoping to make a great first impression,” she said. The festival runs from November 5 to 11. Locations will be found indoors, if the weather is bad. The two-hour showcase concerts will be held at City Hall Theatre at 6pm and 9pm.Tickets are $30 per show or $50 for both. VIP tickets, $75, allows admission to both shows and a complimentary reception at 8pm. Tickets are on sale now at the City of Hamilton office.Useful website: www.cityofhamilton.bm/events/city-music-jazz-festival.
