law enforcement career, will run as a United Bermuda Party candidate in Southampton East.

Mr. Ramsay will be joined by electrical contractor Mr. Calvin Simons in the fight for a first-ever UBP win against longtime Progressive Labour Party incumbents Mr. Reginald Burrows and Mr. Stanley Lowe.

Both men are entering electoral politics for the first time.

The United Bermuda Party said their adoption as candidates would provide Southampton East voters with a "real choice for change''.

"These two candidates reinforce the commitment which we made to the people of Bermuda, that is a future vision shaped by capable and involved people who are willing to work for the benefit of the entire community.'' Mr. Ramsay, who retired as a chief inspector in April, was described as "no stranger to the problems of young people''.

Mr. Ramsay, a past secretary of the Southampton Rangers Sports Club, "has had a career of helping Bermuda deal with very important issues,'' a UBP press statement said.

Mr. Simons, who achieved local recognition with gospel groups Mellowtones and Brown Sugar, said Bermuda needed to further strengthen its efforts for racial harmony and educational opportunities.

"We need to ensure that there exists equality of economic opportunity for all Bermudians.'' Both candidates praised the UBP's record in providing the Island with stability, economic management and the ability to manage change.
